20 years of celebrating art is reflected in Convergence, the exhibition and the book, writes Sarah NH Vogeler
GALERI PETRONAS celebrates its 20th anniversary with Convergence, an exhibition by 31 artists encompassing 59 works, and a book bearing the same title. The latter is to be launched on Sept 5, at the Kuala Lumpur City Centre.
Shireen Naziree, guest curator and essay list of coffee table book Convergence, is a much-admired art historian and writer focusing on Southeast Asian contemporary art.
One of Malaysia’s most visible curators, Shireen has collaborated closely with Galeri Petronas since 2006 in exploring and expounding the educational evaluation of artworks in Petronas’ art annals. Her association with the gallery has occasioned numerous important exhibitions, including Khalil Ibrahim’s 2004 Retrospective, 2008 Changing Phases — Hanoi, successively conveyed to Kuala Lumpur in 2009, and the unforgettable Melangkau Ufuk: Antara Langit Dan Bumi in 2011.
