Art galleries and museums: Gallery 28 in Oxnard is closing its doors next month


Final shows Gallery 28 in Oxnard

Gallery 28 at Seabridge in Oxnard will close its doors sometime in September but there’s still time to catch its final two shows.

The length of the current — or penultimate — exhibition has been cut short to accommodate the closure. Mary Payne’s solo show, “Untamed Nature,” will run through Sunday.

Payne, an award-winning Camarillo artist, has been painting in pastels and oils and exhibiting her work for about 30 years. Among her favorite subjects are wild and domestic animals, tropical florals, seascapes, and ranch and horse scenes.

She describes her style as a blend of precise realism with abstract expressionism and said she favors vibrant colors and strong lines. Payne also does commissioned paintings for clients, mainly portraits of their beloved animals. Examples of her artwork can be found online at
