Boy injured in mom’s alleged Centerville getaway still on life support

A Macon boy whose mother is accused of running him over after shoplifting at a Centerville mall remained on life support and in critical condition Friday.

At a bond hearing Thursday, Houston County Assistant District Attorney Greg Winters said the 4-year-old boy may be taken off life support on Friday. However, Centerville Police Chief Sidney Andrews said late Friday afternoon a detective had just checked, and the boy was still on life support, his condition unchanged.

Police say Arkebia Albury, 25, was leaving Belk at the Houston County Galleria on May 23 when a loss prevention officer tried to stop her on suspicion of shoplifting. She allegedly ran over the boy while trying to flee the officer.

Albury was denied bond. Her attorney called the incident “a tragic accident.”
