First Landing State Park will host its first art festival on April 8 – Virginian

Katherine Pollard has a passion for the arts, and First Landing State Park is the canvas for her new art project.

Pollard, a Shore Drive resident, is spearheading the Seashore Art Festival, which will feature over 40 fine artists displaying their creative wares at First Landing State Park.

Pollard grew up in Great Neck Point and has fond childhood memories of First Landing State Park. She said the real locals still call it by its original name, Seashore State Park, so she wanted to keep the festival’s namesake Seashore. The name changed in 1997 to First Landing State Park to reflect its heritage as the first place where members of the Virginia Company landed.

Pollard said the idea for the Seashore Art Festival actually began in Chesapeake. The Dismal Swamp Art Festival, which is now an official city of Chesapeake sponsored event, was the brainchild of Pollard three years ago.
