Former General Motors employee to be featured artist at Flint Institute of Arts – Mlive

FLINT, MI -– A former General Motors employee will
showcase his paintings at Flint Institute of Arts with a new exhibit at the beginning of the new year.

Robert VanDuyne, a senior citizen from Grand Blanc, will be
the featured artist of the FIA’s Art Sales and Rental Gallery next month,
starting with an opening ceremony on Sunday, Jan. 6, from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m.

VanDuyne, 80, said that he had always been interested in
art, but he studied engineering and worked a career as an engineering manager at
General Motors. Thirty-five years ago, he met Beverly Danks, a Grand Blanc artist
who was helping other area painters hone their talents.

“I loved her work and I started talking to her. I told her
that when I retired, I would take art lessons,” VanDuyne said. “She convinced
me to not wait until I retire. She said it was relaxing, and a good
