Gemeentemuseum Den Haag at its upcoming spring exhibition “Jean Brusselmans – My Flemish Fatherland” would host the most celebrated works of the Belgian artist. The exhibit, showcasing around 40 oil paintings from the 1930s and 1940s, would include previously undiscovered gems that are loaned from various private collections.
Jean Brusselmans (1884 – 1953), during his career as an artist, composed an idyllic oeuvre of paintings starring the rolling landscape and village life of Belgian Brabant-terraced houses, farmlands, rustic interiors and sturdy working folk. A defining feature of his work is the depiction of subjects in an almost two-dimensional fashion, with a strong emphasis on color and form.
