Landscape meets art

Wagner, who is a metal sculptor as well as a painter, is not one to be limited by convention. His Tar Paper Series, is a collection evocative landscape paintings created on roofing tar paper, an unusual canvas for an artist, but the heavy-duty rough and rutted paper allows Wagner to explore the power of texture and its influence in his art. His muted palette reveals sweeping landscapes with great, powerful open spaces. The moody images are at once minimalist and complicated and, like his own landscapes, speak to the layers of complexity that lie beneath apparent simplicity.

Tar Paper Series is on view Mondays through Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sundays, 12 to 4 p.m. through August 25 at Vintage Inspired Lifestyle
