Local Artist in Love with Landscapes

Trish Coonrod, a resident of Lansing, is a local artist on the Ithaca Art Trail who has been producing representational art for about 30 years.


Coonrod said she specializes in oil paintings and ink drawings. She said she likes to focus on realistic objects and scenes and paint them for how they are by looking at them or taking a photograph of the subject of her piece.

Landscapes, particularly within the area and on Cayuga Lake, are her greatest inspiration. She said she also enjoys painting nature and gardens, especially flowers from her own garden.

Sometimes the images Coonrod said she paints are the result of her going out and looking for a beautiful place to paint or draw, but she said she often comes across an idea for a composition by accident. For
