As Benicia got known for its arts scene in the late 1960 and early ’70s, painter Steve L. Davis was there amid many other artists and sculptors.
Today he’s glad to be in Vallejo as more artists move and set up shop and aim for a similar artistic renaissance.
A long-time landscape painter, Davis is holding a one-man show at Java Jax cafe, 1700 Sonoma Boulevard in the heart of downtown Vallejo.
His landscape paintings will be displayed until mid-May, lending a pastoral and definitive California feel to the cozy coffee shop.
“We saw the same thing happen in Benicia. The town wasn’t all that well-known until the artists came in,” Davis.
“It’s reaching a critical mass,” agreed Davis’ long-time partner Jimmy W. Genn who serves as the artist’s agent. “This year has been a very exciting one
