July’s featured artists at the Mystic Art Gallery in Medford are Nicholas Shaplyko and Ekaterina Sorokina. Originally from Russia, the couple immigrated to the United States in the early 90’s and in 1994, were granted a permanent residency as artists with extraordinary abilities.
In 2002, the duo bought the old Masonic Temple on College Avenue in Somerville and transformed it into a temple of art, which they named the Museum of Modern Renaissance.
The museum has been describes as a single piece of art. Walls and ceilings are covered with fresco like paintings of mythological themes that achieve a stain glass effect.
