Ranges of colorful landscapes at YoloArts exhibit

The two artists in August’s Gallery 625 exhibition bring individual approaches to watercolor painting, and their work in this show demonstrates the range of this art form.

The watercolor paintings of Jim Painter and the mixed media watercolor landscapes of Michael Mikolon will be exhibited in “Watercolor Works” through Sept. 3.

The display will open on Friday during Woodland’s First Friday ArtWalk in downtown Woodland.

Painter, of Woodland, has won a number of awards for his paintings, most recently the 2007 Curator’s Choice Award from the Pence Gallery in Davis.

He is a retired U.S. Air Force captain and had a career in the textile industry until his retirement in 1999. Since that time he has pursued work as a watercolorist, and is a well established watercolor instructor, according to his artist statement, he interprets his realistic style from rural settings.
