River Art calls for still life, more

Damariscotta — River Arts has put out the call for the upcoming juried exhibition “Still Life and Beyond” at its newly-expanded and renovated gallery at 241 Route One, next to N.C. Hunt Lumber. To enlarge the creative scope of the show, the theme goes beyond the traditional still life genre to include all art that explores objects as its main focus. While other factors obviously may be included in a submitted art work — such as scenic context or people — an object must invite the viewer’s forceful attention.

Submissions are invited from the full scope of media and approaches, from abstract or sculptural visions of objects; and plein air object studies to traditional treatments. Photography and three-dimensional work are welcome.

Jurors for “Still Life and Beyond” are Dennis and Marty Gleason, well-known owners of the Gleason Fine Art Galleries in Boothbay Harbor and Portland. The couple opened their first gallery
