And the city of Palm Coast will even give you an evergreen tree to plant in your yard in exchange, while many Volusia residents can just place their trees at the curb to be hauled away with other yard waste.
Palm Coast’s sixth annual Christmas tree recycling event will be from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Palm Coast Fuel Depot, 22 Utility Drive. Anyone dropping off a tree will get a free three-gallon evergreen to take home.
Last year, nearly 200 Christmas trees were turned in to be ground into mulch used to beautify parks and trails in the city, said Palm Coast Urban Forester Carol Bennett. All decorations, lights, tinsel and ornaments should be removed from the trees before they’re donated.
“It’s an event the community is starting to take hold of,” she said. “It’s become a tradition.”
