Art camp helps kids build their portfolios

The Prestige Academy Charter School students were supposed to be working on their landscape painting.

As he sat in the shade in the yard behind the school, Shakim Bessen worked on copying the angular lines of a small building on the other side of the yard. Cameron Hutt went for a greener approach, painting trees and grass.

Michael Arocho aimed for the abstract.

“This is my space portal,” he said casually, as he slowly laid down swirls of blue and purple. “I really like thinking about science fiction stuff.”
