IRENE Sparks’ class has taken the challenge of still-life painting and has been inspired by one of Australia’s best-known artists, Margaret Olley.
Olley is noted for her colourful still-life paintings and intimate interiors.
One of her works is on display at the Gladstone Regional Art Gallery and Museum as part of the Cream: Four Decades of Australian Art exhibition.
“The students did very well,” Ms Sparks said. “There was a huge amount of interest in this exercise.
“We did this to learn to draw and paint better and do large-scale works.
“We made great use of the current exhibition at the gallery and the Margaret Olley painting on show there and had a gathering there on Saturday.”
Sharon Doolan said the exercise was “enjoyable but very challenging”.
“It was such an inspiration when we saw Margaret’s painting,” Ms Doolan said. “It was great to see the work that goes into a painting like that.”
