Art from the Heart scheduled

More than 300 pieces of art will be on display for the next two weeks at the annual Art for the Heart art show and sale. 

The event is organized by the Arts Council of Carteret County and takes place at Morehead Plaza, 3000 Arendell Street. 

The show invites artists from Carteret, Onslow, Pamlico and Craven counties to showcase and sell their work to an area growing in size and in appreciation for the arts, according to Lee Lumpkin, the show’s co-chair. 

“I think it’s flourishing,” Lumpkin said about the art scene in Eastern North Carolina. “We have more galleries and more people who are interested in art and have a passion for art.” 

Lumpkin has been a member of the Arts Council of Carteret County since 2001 and has been co-chair of Art for the Heart for the past decade. He was a lawyer by trade but said he “spent more time in
