Evanston artist Diane Thodos is exhibiting two distinctly different bodies of work in her latest exhibit, “Forces of Life: Lyricism and Requiem.”

The pieces in the exhibit, which is on display April 18-May 31 at Re-Invent Gallery in Lake Forest, reflect Thodos’ attraction to Abstract Expressionism and German Expressionism.

“Art is like a diary,” Thodos declared, quickly adding, “That sounds like a cliché. But the fact is as you go through life, things happen. Spring comes and color comes into my work. But then tragedy can come, too. You lose people who are very dear to you.”

She noted that when she visits the Mediterranean, bright blues appear in her work; visits to Mexico yield more intense colors. Life in Chicago influences a heavier palette.
