Artist documents Peruvian life through ‘symbolic realism’ in IMAS exhibit

The darkened Clark gallery at IMAS provides a peaceful and meditative setting in which to view the paintings of Peruvian artist, Alfredo Alcalde. With his exhibit, Human Expressions, he transmits his own vision about life and death; his observations and interpretations fill the large space. Alcalde portrays ordinary people whose flaws and mistakes often lead to ultimate tragedies. His special exotic stylization personalizes his images.
