La Cocina Ventana by Matt Jeanes

A Bristol artist who made his living from designing greetings cards has been shortlisted in the still life category of the prestigious Artists Illustrator’s Artist of the Year award.

Matthew Jeanes’ painting, La Cocina Ventana (The Kitchen Window), was selected from 4,000 entries to be included in the final 10 works.

The former art director for The Paper House Group, the greeting card producer in Gloucester, has also worked for Hallmark as the lead artist on their Forever Friends brand card.

He has also illustrated Winnie the Pooh, Eeyore’s Little Scribbles and Disney Princesses for Disney.

Since his nomination, he has been commissioned to complete a portrait for a couple in Bristol.

“I am absolutely delighted,” he said. “This is the first piece of work I have ever entered into a competition.
