Display of landscapes mark artist’s return

A FORMER art master of Wells Cathedral School is returning to the city with an exhibition of paintings.

Peter Coate was appointed art master at the Cathedral School in 1963 and left ten years later to start the Mendip Painting Centre, at Rickford, Blagdon. The purpose of this small school was to introduce as many people as possible to the beautiful and varied landscape of this part of Somerset.

Peter was born and bred and has lived most of his life in Somerset.

His paintings are landscapes of wild and out-of-the-way places and include limestone rocks, peat moors, the flatlands of the Levels, with a few churches.
