Dynamic in the still life

Flagstaff artist Franklin Willis takes the still life composition to new places with his exhibit “Tea and Tonkas” at the Beaver Street Gallery.

Willis, who teaches at Northern Arizona University, experimented with still lifes involving 20- and 30-year-old toy Tonka trucks and teapots. The combination of the two subjects toys — no pun intended — with scale and concepts of gender assignment. Learn more about Willis and his exhibit, along with an upcoming lecture in the Sunday edition of the Arizona Daily Sun.
