Family and friends remember Gallatin professor through his art

“Bert Katz: The Memorial Exhibit,” an installation showcasing the work of the late Gallatin professor Bertram Katz, opened on March 9 to an intimate room of close friends, family and colleagues who had been touched and influenced by the talented artist who passed last October.

Margo Katz, Katz’s daughter, opened with anecdotal stories of her father and his work in the arts.

“We thought he was the bravest man in the world because he refused to go down into the basement when there were tornado warnings,” she said. “This is not a funeral. Dad wanted an exhibit.”
