Focus On: Lynchburg artist David Eakin branches out

Why you should know him: David, whose realistic depictions of rolling hills, lush meadows and mountain views have earned him numerous juried art awards, has been a local painter for 25 years.


Background

The 55-year-old Roanoke native’s earliest memories of art are from high school, where, in the 1970s, pop art, black-light posters and DayGlo paintings were all the rage. But while earning an associate degree in fine art from Ferrum College, he expanded his artistic palette by delving into photography, design, printmaking, and more.

Then he took a 10-year break from school and art, minus a few small projects here and there, and eventually moved to the Hill City to study fine art at Lynchburg College. After graduating with his bachelor’s degree, he began his journey as a realist painter.
