Frank Stella is one of the greatest internationally known American living artists, who affected contemporary American art.  He belongs to the generation of American artists who grew up on Abstract painting. He was never afraid of innovations, experiments with shape, color, or media creating not only paintings but also prints and 3-dimensional works.

Some people believe that name could define the person’s fate. Italian word “Stella” means “star”, and Frank Stella’ art career fully proved his stellar status.

Parents and Childhood

Frank Philip Stella was born on May 12, 1936 in Malden. He was the oldest of three children to Italian-American parents, whose origins were in Sicily and Calabria.
