Imaginative realism at center of art conference in Reading



The Altoona-based Association of Fantastic Art has agreed to hold its annual “IX” show at the GoggleWorks Center for the Arts each fall from 2016 through 2020. Here’s more information about the international art conference:

Why are community leaders rallying behind an arts conference?

In an effort to get more outsiders to visit Berks County, the Greater Reading Convention Visitors Bureau decided it needed more information on what appeals to tourists. The bureau hired Wisconsin-based Zeitgeist Consulting to conduct a destination assessment, which began in October. Zeitgeist found that the Reading area needs to focus on five niche markets, including arts, culture and heritage. Bringing in the arts conference is in line with those findings and will really showcase what the area has to offer, said Crystal A. Seitz, the bureau’s executive director.
