Jennie Geisler: Dipped rice cakes unfortunately still rice cakes

Yes, you can eat rice cakes to keep yourself out of the vending machine. But no matter what you do to them, they’re still rice cakes.

Rice cakes really aren’t that bad. I like their crunch, and even the plain ones have a mild, welcome sweetness. But the novelty wears off really fast for me. After a few snacks of rice cakes over the course of a week or two, I’m ready for, say, a six-month break.

Colleague Lindsey Poisson found four promising-looking packages of rice cakes dipped in a candy coating on one side. She found them in Vanilla Orange, Dark Chocolate, Milk Chocolate and Strawberry and Cream. How bad could they be, really? I was game to try them.
