John Woodson: Expression from the stage to the canvas – Winston

John Woodson, 63, has devoted his life to art. Since pursuing theater at the age of 13, he has not looked back to even consider another career. Cutting his teeth at regional theaters like The Cleveland Playhouse in Cleveland, The Repertory Theatre in St. Louis, and The Warehouse Theatre in Greenville, S.C., to name a few, Woodson has become a successful career artist.

“I grew up in the Midwest where there was not a regional theater,” Woodson said, “and I have totally made my living as an actor since then. People have asked me what I want to do when I retire, and I reply with, ‘Retire from what? The best job in the world?’”

With 40 years on the stage and in the spotlight, Woodson’s now set his sights on new forms
