The landscapes of Colorado — toothy peaks, bouncy streams, wildflower-strewn meadows and blazing aspen groves — have long inspired man to put paintbrush to canvas in an attempt to capture the state’s remarkable nuances of light and nature.
A brand new gallery in Telluride celebrates the genre of landscape art by exclusively carrying realist landscape and plein air paintings of Telluride, the state of Colorado and the Southwest region.
Oh-Be-Joyful opened on Dec. 15 in a space on West Colorado Avenue near the San Miguel County Courthouse. The gallery, which is a sister gallery to the Oh-Be-Joyful Gallery in Crested Butte, represents 18 landscape artists who range from veteran painters to up-and-coming artists.
It was opened by Shaun Horne, a plein air painter who can often be seen creating his large, vibrantly colored artworks in downtown Telluride, along with his wife, Dawn Cohen, another accomplished landscape artist.
