Mother and son pursue art together

Family connections keep Darlene Stephenson and her four sons in touch with each other and their artistic sides. Stephenson, of Great Falls, began painting in her retirement, often using old family photos as inspiration. Her son, Joel Long, of Salt Lake City, took up painting with help from Stephenson a few years ago. Long focuses much of his art on Montana landscapes and landmarks.

Together, they’ll be showing their work at the Arts Association of Montana’s Missouri Falls Fine Arts Show at the La Quinta Inn in Great Falls from Friday through Sunday of Western Art Week.

Mother and son have entered into a sort of renaissance together.

“He calls me every Sunday and we visit about art,” Stephenson said.
