Must-see-shows in 2013: a worldwide cultural marathon

2013 will certainly not go unnoticed in the history of art shows worldwide. The programming of the year yet to unfold is rich and promising – here’s an overview of major exhibitions to come.

First of all, the Royal Academy of London is to host an exhibition of Manet’s work as a portraitist in “Manet: Portraying Life” from 26 January to 14 April. Manet’s paintings are also to be highlighted in “Impressionism, Fashion, and Modernity” to be held at the MET in New York, from 26 February to 27 May, alongside paintings by Renoir, Monet and other Impressionists influenced by the growing sophistication of fashion in early 19th Century-Paris.

The National Gallery in London is to bear a major exhibition on Vermeer’s paintings, all related to music. The reuniting of the mere 30 paintings known to have been produced
