New event showcases artwork of Appalachian women

March is Women’s History Month. In Whitesburg Saturday, folks kicked off an inaugural art show called “Of Hollers and Highlands: The Artwork of Appalachian Women.”
During Women’s History Month, several eastern Kentucky artists took a moment Saturday to reflect on its importance.

“Women’s History Month is really about honoring women that inspired us, but also encouraging women to pursue their dreams,” says Marge Fulton, an area artist.

That idea of honoring and encouraging women is part of what inspired one private citizen to organize a new art show, showcasing the work of female artists in the region.
