Photo-Realist Pastels Define Artist’s Objectives

In debating the merits of the photo-realist style of painting, there are many opinions about the subject among artists and critics. With origins in the 1960s, the movement spawned such renowned practitioners as Chuck Estes, Audrey Flack, Chuck Close, Janet Fish and Duane Hanson. Drawing largely upon advertising and commercial imagery, their brand of photo-realism tended to produce a detached and impersonal effect.
