Two accomplished artists with a penchant for pop culture themes begin a month-long exhibition Thursday at the Hamilton-Selway Fine Art gallery in West Hollywood.
Jean Wells is renowned for her large-scale mosaic sculptures, and co-exhibitor Doug Bloodworth has quickly established a reputation as one of today’s premiere photorealist painters.
Both artists incorporate iconic childhood foods, drinks, games and memorabilia into their works, which will be on display at Hamilton-Selway until June 6.
“The art that I create is a combination of what I do,” Wells said. “I am a third generation mosaic artist and I grew up in the ’60s and ’70s during the pop era.”
With a background in graphic design and advertising, Wells draws on her extensive knowledge of pop culture. She has exhibited her work in several prestigious institutions, including LACMA.
Bloodworth explained his similar perspective with regard to pop culture themes.
