The Princeton University Orchestra, under the direction of Michael Pratt, teams up with the Princeton Glee Club this weekend in a program of works by Ravel and Poulenc
The Princeton University Orchestra and the Princeton Glee Club come together this weekend for two concerts strong on contrasts.
The orchestra and chorus will perform Maurice Ravel’s “Daphnis and Chloe” and Francis Poulenc’s “Gloria.” The concerts will take place tonight and tomorrow at Richardson Auditorium, in Alexander Hall, on the campus of Princeton University.
There is unity in the fact that both halves of the program consist of French masterpieces, and that both of them employ chorus and orchestra. Both pieces make a strong impact on listeners in their own respective ways, and both composers were considered radical for their time, but affinities end there.
