Realism artist Rachel Maxi goes abstract

Zinc Art + Interiors will be the first to show Seattle artist Rachel Maxi’s abstract works beginning May 16.

Well known for realism, Maxi uses the abstract to depict a multi-tonal world with the same knowing deft stroke of her brush with oil on canvas, said Laura Zeck, owner of Zinc, and unlocks the possibility of color and brings understanding of it to a new level.

According to Maxi, her new show is inspired by many things, including her thirst for the spontaneous and unpredictable, as well as listening to hard bop jazz of the 1950s and dabbling in ceramics.

“This is my first go at it with abstraction in an official way,” Maxi said. “Although I have always been in touch with it in my other work, I feel like it has always been there waiting to come into existence, and I am grateful for the opportunity to exhibit them now at
