‘Sweet Music’
The themes of the May show at the Art Alliance of Monmouth County in Red Bank are “Surface Beauty” and “Children’s Art.”

The window artist and curator is Despina Statelova.

A native of Bulgaria, Statelova teaches art to special needs students, K-12, at the Rugby School in Wall. She has been recognized with an Innovations in Special Education Award from the New Jersey School Boards Association. Statelova studied under the abstract expressionist Georgette Pettit and was a member of the Lyrical Abstract Expressionist Group. She was a founder and active participant, along with seven other artists, in the Shore Women’s Abstract Gallery.

Propelled by the uninhibited foundations of Abstract Expressionism, her art morphed away from traditional forms. Her “mixed media paintings, where expressionistic strokes are interwoven with meticulously orchestrated collages and found objects,
