Zombie, landscape artist becomes curator at The Gallery at Tech Garden

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Steve Nyland is curator and artist-in-residence at The Gallery at The Tech Garden for 2015. He becomes the fourth curator of the downtown gallery and succeeds Kristina Starowitz. Nyland presented his first show, “Winter Recipe,” last week. During his year-long appointment, Nyland will curate four shows at The Gallery.

Nyland said “Winter Recipe” was an introduction to his new job and space. “That was a way for me to learn how to show art at The Tech Garden, how to curate the space, how to work with it,” he said, “and learn the rules so we can start breaking them.”

He wants to present exhibitions different from framed art on walls. “I want the exhibits to have a dynamic nature to them that actually might change over time,” he said. He is planning an April show featuring video, multimedia installation and performance
